The UK Royal Family are a reclusive bunch, about whom the public are always keen to learn behind-the-scenes details.
Getting to grips with the people behind the titles can feel like a challenge, but some new data has revealed the cleverest member of the esteemed family.
You may be surprised to learn that the supposed “smartest” member of the family isn’t Prince William, or even Kate Middleton.

Instead, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has landed at the top of the list. This news comes following research carried out by education provider Oxford Royale .
Oxford Royale analysed the QS World University Rankings with a fine tooth comb and found Meghan Markle, 40, is the most intelligent Royal.
The Duchess of Sussex attended the prestigious Northwestern University in Illinois, ranked far above the universities attended by the other Royals on the list.
Northwestern University is found at number 30 on the QS World University Rankings list, which is made up of a whopping 1350+ institutions.
This is an impressive 61 places ahead of the second-best institution attended by a Royal in the survey - the University of St Andrew’s.
Meghan Markle studied a double major in Theatre and International Relations and graduated in 2003.
Despite Meghan’s success in the ranking, she is not the only clever cloggs in the family.
Kate Middleton and Prince William are quite the power couple when it comes to intelligence, placing second and third on the list of most intelligent Royals.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met and fell in love when Kate was studying History of Art and William studying Geography at the University of St Andrews, an institution which ranks 91 on the QS World list.
Although the Royal couple attended the same institution, Kate pips William to the post when it comes to intelligence, getting AAB in her A Levels, ahead of William’s grades of ABC.
Princess Eugenie takes the crown as the UK’s fourth smartest Royal. The Princess studied History of Art and English Literature Newcastle University, which ranks 134 out of all universities on the QS World list, and achieved AAB in her A-Levels.
Despite Eugenie’s sister Princess Beatrice also achieving strong A-Level results (ABB), Princess Eugenie comes out top when it comes to brains, with Newcastle University ranking 327 places above Eugenie’s alma mater: Goldsmith’s.

A spokesperson for Oxford Royale commenting on the findings said: “Life as a Royal isn’t always an easy job, and involves a lot of dealing with extensive scrutiny and life in the public spotlight, and Meghan Markle’s academic strengths have equipped her perfectly for this role.
“While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have resigned from their roles as working Royals, they have captured the interest and attention of the world, and Meghan’s desire to use her platform to raise awareness over serious world issues reflects her intelligence, analytical mind and educational pedigree”.
